Tutorial: como dibujar caras / Tutorial: How to draw faces

Para dibujar una cara hay que tener en cuenta unas proporciones de belleza. Son numerosos los cánones que existen pero para este tutorial yo he seguido el sugerido por Leonardo Da Vinci que dividió la cabeza en tres segmentos iguales: desde la raíz del cuero cabelludo hasta el párpado superior, desde el párpado hasta la base de la nariz y, por último, desde esta hasta el extremo del mentón.

To draw a face we need to bear in mind a number of beauty proportions. There are numerous canons but I ´ve decided to follow Leonardo Da Vinci´s who divided the head into three equal segments: from the roots of the hair to the upper eyelid, from the eyelid to the base of the nose and finally, from the nose to the chin.

Primer paso: 

• Dibuja una línea vertical que llamaremos AB. 
• Traza después una marca que indicará la raíz del cuero cabelludo. La llamaremos C. 
• Divide en tres partes iguales la línea CB. 
• Marca los puntos de corte con las letras D para el primero y E para el segundo.

First step:

• Trace a vertical line (AB).
• Draw a point to indicate the roots of the hair. (C).
• Divide the line (CB) in three equal parts.
• Draw the vertex made in the intersections of the two lines. Name them D and E.

Segundo paso: 

• Dibuja un círculo utilizando como radio la línea DA. 
• Dibuja un óvalo para marcar el mentón. 
• Divide la línea AB en dos partes y traza la línea HI.

Second step:

• Draw a circle using the line DA as the radius.
• Trace an oval to draw the chin.
• Divide the line (AB) in two parts and trace the line HI.

Tercer paso:

• Divide la línea HI en cinco segmentos iguales. Los segmentos 2 y 4 conformarán los ojos.
• Dibuja una línea horizontal pasando por el punto E. 
• Proyecta el segmento 3 hacia esta nueva línea para dar lugar al espacio reservado para la nariz.
• Utiliza la base del círculo inicial como base de la parte inferior del labio. 

Third step:

• Divide the line (HI) in five equal segments. The segments 2 and 4 will be the place for the eyes.
• Draw an horizontal line passing through  the vertex E.
• Project segment 3 to this new line. It will make the base of the nose.
• Use the base of the initial circle as the base of the lower lip.

Cuarto paso:

• Dibuja los ojos, la nariz, la boca y el pelo.

Fourth step:

• Draw the eyes, the nose and the hair.

Este es el resultado. El primer dibujo está hecho con lápices de colores mientras que he coloreado el segundo con los rotuladores Copic. Voilá!

This is the result. The first sketch is coloured in pencil whereas for the second one I used Copic markers. Voilá!
